About the MYTHOLOGY

Just as other great publishers have created their own universes for their characters to inhabit, so has Jiba Molei Anderson of Griot Enterprises created The New Mythology, which re-contextualizes world mythology from a contemporary viewpoint. From Creation to Ragnarök, Mythos: The Official Handbook of the Horsemen Universe sets the metaphysical stage for everything that has yet to come.

About the DROP

In the Silver Age, Marvel Comics started the concept of corner boxes on its covers which would show figureheads of the characters starring in a particular comic title. We are featuring each of the Horsemen characters in their own corner box art as a shout-out to the nostalgia of OG comic book collectors.

We used the various layers of each piece of corner box art to introduce a generative aspect to the collection. Each one of the 7 heroes has a mask and an associated hero color. We deconstructed the layered artwork even further to provide the necessary DNA for the thousands of unique combinations in this collection.

We have created Mythos: the Horsemen 20th Anniversary NFT Project to share the success of the last few decades with fans of The Horsemen in the form of digital collectibles, also known as NFTs. Those who have known us for decades, or those who have recently heard of us, are all welcome to participate in our first-ever blockchain project. This NFT drop is the first of many, and we use the proceeds to fund continuous development and to spawn other projects.

Each hero has a mask in the background of their corner box. We have 3 features per mask: Crown, Eyes, and Grille. Changing the colors of these features produces a multitude of variations of the original artwork.

Each background gradient is made of 4 corners, or nodes. Each node represents one of the 7 hero colors. Gradients are created by rotating each hero color around each corner. Each hero will be shown on top of a permutation of their mask.

An assay is a certificate of authenticity that wraps and protects a collectible. We use the assay to describe the rarity of the piece. We will also include a QR code that links directly to the individual character page on the minting website.

Jiba Anderson

About the ARTIST

Jiba Molei Anderson is a veteran of the creative industries working as an illustrator, graphic designer, writer and educator.

He has made an educational and historical impact being included in a long-running exhibition at the Smithsonian National Museum of African Art. His books have also become a critical success with Hollywood talents such as Tony Todd (Candyman, Star Trek DS9) and Sean Astin (Lord of the Rings, Stranger Things) and comic book royalty like the late Dwayne McDuffie (Justice League Unlimited, Milestone Media.)

In 1999, Anderson formed Griot Enterprises, a publishing company / visual communication studio and created its flagship property, The Horsemen, which was first released in 2002 to critical acclaim. He has also the curator of the 4 Pages 16 Bars: A Visual Mixtape anthology series, which focuses on independent comics from creators of color as well as maintaining The Afrosoul Chronicles, a blog about comics, pop culture, politics and race.

Anderson has had numerous one-man & group shows and has been invited to speak about his work and the representation of race and culture at various institutions including the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Penn State Altoona, Michigan State University and the Ohio State University. 

He has also been employed as a graphic designer, animator, art director and graphic novelist for educational institutions such as the University of Illinois - Chicago and the Smithsonian National Museum of African Art. He has also made an impact in the world of role playing games contributing content to the World of Darkness franchise (Vampire: The Masquerade, Wraith: The Oblivion, Tales of Depravity, They Came from [CLASSIFIED] ) for Onyx Path Publishing.

Recently, Anderson became the proud recipient of the Glyph Awards Lifetime Achievement/Pioneer award for his work in the comic book industry through the East Coast of Black Age Comics convention (ECBACC).
